Welcome to our traditional village pub with rooms situated in the heart of Constable country, nestled on the Suffolk border.
We offer our guests a quaint home away from home, delicious food, real ales and a very well well-stocked wine cellar.
It is this, and combined with our dedicated and passionate team, that has guests returning time and time again!
FOOD & DRINK
Cosy up in our inviting pub or sit outside if the sun is shining on our garden terrace. Expect to find a regularly changing 'Catch of the day' menu that celebrates our access to artisan regional and local suppliers, complemented by pub classics. Award winning cheeses, local vegetables and home-grown meats are on our doorstep – helping our Chefs stay true to our region.
Vegan dishes and gluten-free options will sit alongside hearty Sunday roasts and fresh seafood, all contributing to the great diversity and seasonality of our region, East Anglia.
THE CELLAR
With over 30 wines by the glass, The Cellar is a personally curated collection of over 250 wines, available reasonable prices. Enjoy something new on its own or alongside a delicious meal from our restaurant.
Our very own Wine Shop features wines from around the world that can be enjoyed with us or taken away, including Magnums of Chateau Talbot, Henschke’s Hill of Grace, a plethora of Red and White Burgundies – Leflaive, Sauzet, Lafon, to name but a few. Manu of these are scarce in many top restaurants!
Our expert team nurtures each wine to its peak, so it can be served with simplicity and care - and most importantly, enjoyed
BEDROOMS
Nestled at the rear of the pub, you will find The Folly. With 11 beautifully adorned and cosy bedrooms, all with ensuites, these bedrooms are perfect for an escape to the Essex countryside. Each bedroom has been individually designed with a keen attention to detail and effortless style.
Stay in one of our Good, Better, or Even better rooms. Or for something a little more special reserve our Best room.
Amenities in our bedrooms include flat screen TVs, tea and coffee facilities, WIFI and Connock products.
With a light and spacious lobby and attentive team on hand, your stay promises rest, relaxation and comfort.
OUR LODGES
Tucked away from the hustle of the pub, with uninterrupted views of Constable Country. Our three new luxury bedrooms are your escape to rural relaxation.
To set the scene, imagine earthy tones, rustic charm, oak floors, and wide opening Crittall doors.
Inside, you’ll find everything you need for a comfortable, restful stay: a freestanding bath with countryside views, a separate large shower and double sink, Connock toiletries, air con, flat screen TV, Roberts radio, and a Nespresso coffee machine.
Step outside onto your private terrace, a bistro-style table and chairs and a sun lounge for admiring the landscape.
DOGS WELCOME
Wagging tails will always be welcome through our door. So much so, that we have created an overnight stay package, Muddy Paws, and a special dog menu, with your four-legged companion in mind.
Our friendly team members are always on hand with doggy treats and tips for the best dog walks in our area, including our own Riverside Ramble walking route.

What are your opening times?
We are open Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 11:30pm, Saturday 8:30am to 11:30pm and Sunday 8:30am to 10:30pm. Find out more about our kitchen opening times.
Are you dog-friendly?
Yes, we love having your furry friends stay with us in our accommodation. They are allowed in both the restaurant and bar, too.
Can I buy a gift voucher?
Yes, we have gift vouchers that you can use at any of our pubs across East Anglia. We also have a range of offers and packages.
