Informal and relaxed dining is the rule at The Crown.
The choice of dining areas promises conviviality and varying degrees of cosiness and privacy, whatever your mood. The Crown sources, wherever possible, local produce for a regularly evolving menu and fishboard.
The Kitchen collects from local farmers, whether it's sacks of potatoes from the Schwier farming family or trays of salads and herbs from Malcolm Kemp. Traditional breeds of meat such as free range Gloucester Old Spot Pork come from the extensive woodlands of Marks Hall Estate and Lamb from the Colne Valley.
Being so close to the East Coast means the fish board changes daily, reflecting what is fresh and available that day, often from the fishing boats of the Blackwater Estuary in Mersea, famous for its Oysters!
A relaxed Sunday at the Crown has become a tradition for many customers, enjoying roast Rib of Beef with homemade Yorkshire Pudding and horseradish sauce, with local roast potatoes and fresh seasonal vegetables.
Breakfast is also enjoyed by many customers and you don't have to stay!
