The Good Pub Guide has been established for over 30 years and has cemented itself amongst pub and beer lovers as an authority on the Great British pub. This British institution lists and reviews 1,000s of pub across England, Scotland and Wales but only a small amount are ranked as ‘worth a visit’ with even fewer getting the accolade of receiving the Good Pub Guide ‘Recommended’ rosette.
Here at the Crown Inn we are delighted (and honoured) to have received the highest award given by the Good Pub Guide. This award recognises pubs that meet their exacting levels of service and quality of the food and drink on offer. When reviewing the Crown Inn, The Good Pub Guide described our food as “Enticing” and lists a number of our popular dishes.
The Good Pub Guide makes several references to our guests and the terms they use to describe the Crown Inn. “First Class” is one of the terms used in the guide along with “well run and civilised” (which is how we like to think of ourselves!).
The guide goes on to talk about the interior furnishings here at the Crown which have been specifically chosen and maintained to provide a relaxed environment whilst maintaining the original look and feel of our Inn. Many references are made the exposed beams and numerous period features which provide the character and experience that our repeat guests love.
The Good Pub Guide is not only considered an authority on pubs and dining, a lot of the guide’s core readership are beer-lovers who want to know where they can source a good pint anywhere in the country. The guide recognises the quality and variety of beer available including “a changing guest on handpump” in addition to many ‘old favourites’ including Adnam’s Ghost Ship and Woodford’s Wherry.
Here at the Crown Inn we are lovers of good wine and believe that the selection and quality of wine we offer to our guests is one of the many cornerstones of the experience we offer. We were delighted that this commitment to providing a good selection of quality wines (both by the glass and by the bottle) had been recognised by the Good Pub Guide. The guide makes reference to the availability of “30 by the glass and hundreds more by the bottle” as well as praising our on-site wine store where guests can purchase a bottle to take home (or enjoy in one of our beautifully appointed rooms).
We were very pleased to read that, in addition to both the excellent review we received and the recognition of a ‘Recommended’ rosette, that the beautiful area in which we are situated didn’t go unnoticed. The Crown Inn is located within the stunning Dedham Vale area which has the official status of an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This area has historically been a ‘go to’ for artists who can enjoy the some of the best views that England has to offer. It is these sprawling open fields, streams and natural hills and valleys that will have historically attracted such great artists as Constable and Gainsborough (in fact, the Dedham Value AONB is affectionately known as ‘Constable Country’).
Any area that offers such beautiful scenery is always going to be popular with walkers and we are delighted to regularly welcome walkers of all ages to The Crown, belt for an early breakfast or for supper and a glass of wine after a long day enjoying our surroundings. The Good Pub Guide made particular reference to “plenty of well marked surrounding footpaths” which provide some picturesque routes for those who may not be familiar with the area.
Whenever you visit the Crown Inn (whether you are staying with us or joining us for a meal) our dedicated team want to ensure that your stay is as enjoyable and memorable as possible. We aim to offer an attentive service without being imposing on our guests and were very pleased to read that this experience was reflected in the review we received form the Good Pub Guide. The review made particular reference to our ‘friendly staff’ at the bar, a theme we continue throughout the Crown.
Many thanks to the Good Pub Guide for the review and for recognising the work we put in to make our guests feel welcome each and every visit.
